Corpus Christi" Baroque Crucifix Carved in Wood and Oil Painted

This "Corpus Christi" crucifix from Val Gardena exemplifies traditional sacred carving: the figure of Christ is modelled with extraordinary attention to anatomical detail, conveying abandonment and suffering. The polychromy, executed with the traditional oil-painted technique, renders a pale, lifelike flesh tone contrasted with vivid red wounds.

The cross follows a Baroque vocabulary: dark-stained wood with trilobed ends edged by a thin frame of polished gold or brass. The perizoma (loincloth) is finished in gold leaf, creating a voluminous, brilliant drapery that underscores Christ's dignity.

Constructed in maple for sizes up to 56 cm and in linden for larger dimensions, each piece is hand-finished by expert artisans. Suitable for display in a home or place of worship.
