Hand Carved Baroque Corpus of Christ in Val Gardena Wood

This Baroque-style Corpus Christi is a carved wooden sculpture from Val Gardena depicting the final moment of sacrifice with pronounced dramatic realism.

Jesus is modelled with anatomical precision — tense musculature, visible ribs and a reclined pose — his face showing suffering yet serenity, with dark curls and a thick beard. The loincloth is painted intense blue and sky blue with deep folds and precious golden inserts reminiscent of tassels or bells; wounds are rendered in vivid, realistic red.

Smaller sizes (up to 56 cm) are carved from maple for fine detail; larger versions (from 60 cm upwards) are executed in linden to ensure stability and scale.
