Saint Gertrude Wood Statue - Val Gardena Artisan Sculpture

Saint Gertrude of Helfta, carved with downcast eyes and a serene, prayerful expression, represents the devotion and mystical calm of the Benedictine mystic in the Val Gardena tradition.

She is depicted in a monastic habit with a large dark cloak and white veil; the right hand holds a golden abbatial crozier, the left supports an open book of mystical revelations topped by a quill, and a small golden cross hangs from the habit, symbolising her consecration to Christ.

Figures up to 36 cm are carved from maple to preserve fine detail; sizes over 36 cm are made in sturdy linden for greater scale and impact, all reflecting the centuries-old Val Gardena carving tradition.
