Hand Carved Baroque Corpus of Christ in Val Gardena Wood

This Baroque-style Corpus Christi captures the final moment of sacrifice with dramatic realism and is crafted in the Val Gardena tradition. The composition emphasises the reclining body and the physical toll of the Passion rather than ornamented presentation.

The figure is carved with precise anatomical detail—tense musculature, visible ribs and a serene yet suffering face framed by dark curls and a thick beard. The loincloth is painted in intense blue and sky-blue tones and set off with precious golden inserts that echo tassels or bells; wounds are rendered in vivid red for added emotional impact.

Smaller sizes (up to 56 cm) are carved from maple wood for fine detail; larger versions (from 60 cm upwards) are produced in linden wood to ensure stability and presence. Materials and dimensions are chosen to suit the scale of the work.
