Infant Jesus of Prague Polychrome Hand-Carved Wooden Statue
The Infant Jesus of Prague is a hand-carved, polychrome statue with a cherry-red matte robe, stylised floral motifs and gilt detailing. It wears an elaborate crown, ruffled collar and white cuffs; the right hand is raised in blessing while the left holds the orb and cross.
Made by Val Gardena sculptors and painters in the South Tyrolean tradition, each piece is entirely handmade and hand-painted. Smaller sizes (up to 56 cm) are carved from maple, larger sizes from fine linden. The "C - Coloured maple wood" finish enhances pigment vibrancy for a more striking polychrome effect.
