Statue of Saint Celestine V, Pope and Hermit | Sacred Sculpture in Val Gardena Wood

This sculpture depicts Saint Celestine V combining the dignity of pontifical vestments with the simplicity of a hermit, carved in the Val Gardena sacral tradition and finished with careful attention to detail.

The outer cloak is burnt Siena earth-coloured and modelled in soft folds; borders and the tiara carry gilt detailing to catch the light. The composed expression and a finely carved, flowing beard give the figure a contemplative realism.

Carved in maple for sizes up to 56 cm and in linden for 56 cm and above, each statue is entirely hand-painted to preserve definition and finish.
