The Saint Clement sculpture from Val Gardena is carved in solid wood and shows a contemplative pose, with a serene gaze directed at an open book — a symbol of Wisdom and Holy Scripture. The cope is painted an intense dark burgundy red with wide gilded borders; the pointed mitre bears a cross and the pastoral staff is richly gilded. Faces, hands and garments are finely finished, reflecting the long Val Gardena sculptural tradition.
