Sculpture of Saint Francesca Romana with Guardian Angel in Val Gardena Wood

This sculpture depicts St Francesca Romana in her monastic habit, her expression one of calm contemplation. The robes are modelled in dark brown and ochre tones; she holds the palm of spiritual victory in her left hand and an open book in her right, on which a delicate golden statuette of the Guardian Angel rests.

Carved by Val Gardena artisans, sizes up to 56 cm are made in maple wood for fine detail, while larger models from 60 cm use linden wood for greater stability. Each piece is hand-painted with careful shading and chiaroscuro, giving depth and making every statue unique.
