Saint Gertrude Wood Statue - Val Gardena Artisan Sculpture

Saint Gertrude of Helfta is depicted in quiet contemplation, her eyes downcast in a gesture of prayer that reflects her Benedictine devotion and mystical grace.

She wears a monastic habit with a large dark cloak and white veil, holds a golden abbatial crozier in her right hand and supports an open book with a quill in her left; a delicate golden cross hangs from her habit, symbolising her vocation as a writer and Doctor of the Church.

Carved by the master sculptors of Val Gardena, the statue is made from maple wood for sizes up to 36 cm to preserve fine detail, with sturdy linden wood used for pieces over 36 cm.
