Saint Joan Mary de Maillé – Wood Carving from Val Gardena

Saint Joan Mary de Maillé by the artist Dolfi is presented in a still, reflective pose: a slight inclination of the head and a downcast gaze that invite prayer and contemplation.

The monastic robes are carved to emphasise soft, controlled folds—dark mantle over a warmer-toned habit—creating a subtle play of light and shadow. Fine details include a pristine veil framing a youthful, serene face, a simple natural wooden cross and a book topped by a golden crown of thorns.

Each statue is hand‑sculpted and finished in the centuries‑old Val Gardena tradition. For sizes up to 56 cm the figure is in maple; larger sizes are in precious lime wood, offering an imposing, long‑lasting devotional piece.
