Description
A bronze statue of the Virgin Mary was given to the French by the people of Algiers, wanting it to be the protectress of Mohammedans and the Algiers natives. Cardinal Lavigiers built a Basilica in Algiers, which contained the statue. The Basilica and the statue came to be called Our Lady of Africa. Lame, blind and crippled were miraculously healed, and sailors sought protection from the seas. Patronage: Africa Feast Day: April 30
