Statue of Saint Peter the Apostle, Hand-Carved and Painted in Val Gardena Wood

Carved statue of Saint Peter the Apostle in a dynamic, slightly unbalanced pose, holding the keys — the traditional symbol of the authority to bind and loose. Fine details include a thick curly beard and bare feet resting on a rocky base.

The figure wears a reddish-brown tunic and an olive-green cloak with deep folds emphasised by skilful oil-painting. The oil-coloured, semi‑transparent pigments allow the wood grain to show through, while the cloak edges are finished with hand-applied gold leaf.

Made in the Val Gardena tradition and available in various sizes: carved in maple for sizes up to 56 cm and in linden for larger or church-scale works. Each statue is hand-finished and unique.
