Statue of Saint Peter the Apostle, Hand-Carved and Painted in Val Gardena Wood

Saint Peter the Apostle carved in a dynamic, erect pose, holding the keys — the traditional symbol of the power to loose and bind granted by Christ. The contrapposto stance gives the figure a sense of movement and spiritual presence.

Painted in reddish-brown for the tunic and olive-green for the cloak, the sculpture features deep drapery folds emphasised by skilful oil painting. The oil-coloured finish uses semi‑transparent pigments to reveal the wood grain, and the cloak edges are highlighted with hand‑applied gold leaf.

Made in the Val Gardena tradition and offered in various sizes: maple for sizes up to 56 cm (favoured for fine carving) and linden for larger and church sculptures. Each statue is finished by hand, from the thick curly beard to the bare feet on a rocky base, suitable for sacred or domestic spaces.
