Altar & Paschal Candle Care
To keep your candles in good condition, it's best to store them horizontally on a flat surface away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remember to use them within two years of purchase for the best experience.
When setting up a new F.A. Dumont candle, make sure it's placed securely in an upright position on a stable surface or in a candle socket. This will ensure a safe and enjoyable burning experience.
Before lighting your candle, take a moment to check the wick. Make sure it's straight and standing upright, aligned with the candle. If needed, trim the exposed wick to around 1/2" in length.
To light your candle, we recommend using a F.A. Dumont lighting taper. It's best to expose the entire wick to the taper flame for a clean burn. Avoid using matches or paper, as they can introduce unwanted materials that may cause issues.
When relighting a candle, ensure that the melted wax pool is clear of any debris. Be gentle and avoid disturbing the shape of the wick from its previous burn.
If you notice a candle burning with an unusually low flame, it's best to extinguish it. Allow the wax to cool and then carefully trim the top of the candle to expose more wick.
To safely extinguish your candle, avoid blowing directly onto the molten wax pool to prevent splashing. Instead, use a candle snuffer. Be mindful not to damage the wick or the edge of the wax pool.
In some cases, draughts can cause candles to flicker or gutter. If you're facing unavoidable draughts, we have a range of candle caps designed for specific candle types and sizes.
To remove wax from metal, glass, or ceramic holders, simply use hot water. It will help loosen the wax for easy cleaning.
When burning candles in enclosed spaces, it's important to maintain at least two feet of vertical clearance between the flame and any nearby surface or material.
Please remember to exercise extreme caution at all times to ensure your candles are burned correctly and in a safe environment. Lastly, never leave burning candles unattended for your peace of mind.
