Corpus Christi with Cross and Wooden Base, Handcrafted in Val Gardena

This Corpus Christi with cross and base is a piece of sacred art from Val Gardena, carved with meticulous attention to expression and anatomy. It shows Christ at the moment of sacrifice with a reclined face, half-closed eyes, crown of thorns and finely modelled ribs and tensed musculature; the INRI scroll is placed above his head.

The loincloth is sculpted in deep folds and finished in a dark blue, while the wounds on the hands, feet and side are accentuated with reddish tones against delicate flesh-coloured nuances. The cross and polygonal base are left in the natural colour to show the wood grain. Made of maple for sizes up to 56 cm and linden for larger sizes, following Val Gardena tradition for definition and durability.
