Crucifix Val Gardena Wooden Sculpture – Hand-Painted Christ

This crucifix presents the Passion with restrained realism: the Corpus shows a reclined head, closed eyes and visible ribs, while the reddish‑bluish loincloth is finely carved to convey drapery and movement.

The finish is hand‑painted, with pale flesh tones punctuated by reddish‑brown accents that simulate wounds from the crown of thorns, nails and the spear. A gilded scroll inscribed INRI adds a solemn highlight.

Made in the Val Gardena sculptural tradition, the cross is natural wood with visible grain and serves as a sturdy support for a Corpus carved from precious woods: maple for sizes up to 56 cm (valued for its fineness and compactness) and linden for larger dimensions (chosen for stability and lightness in monumental formats).
